Books to Movies

Hello readers, today's topic is books to movies, what rocks and sadly, what does not. One rocker is this year's movie Precious based on the book Push by Sapphire. Edgy and raw both the book and movie emotionally grab you and pull you in. Slumdog Millionaire based on the book Q & A by Vikas Swarup is another winner, both in book and movie form. Both of these stories have incredibly courageous protagonists who overcome insurmountable obstacles to "push" on.

Okay, now movies that don't quite measure up to the book. How about the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? The movie flat lined. The movie 1408 based on the Stephen King story was so disjointed and weak it bombed. And the book Twilight, by Stepanie Meyer, so loved by teenage readers, but the movie, "sucked" according to many teenagers and also in my viewpoint.

What's on the horizon? A remake of the book and very popular movie True Grit will arrive in movie theaters in December 2010. The new movie will star Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges and one of my personal favorites, Josh Brolin. Another book to movie on the way is Beastly based on the book by Alex flinn. Hello Readers!

Hello readers and welcome. What's rockin' the circulation desk? The top book in circulation for this library in the past six months has been Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Myer. Followed by, you guessed it, Eclipse and Twilight both by Stephanie Myer. This school has a real thirst for vampires!

Another series worth "checking out" is The Blood Coven series by Mari Mancusi. The three books in the series are Boys that Bite, Stake That!, and Girls that Growl. The books are written in a casual tone about teenagers and their vampire problems, fun and light-hearted, these books will grab your attention - and bite you on the neck! You'll be a fan in no time. Her tag line is "teen books with a bite". Very witty. Just released in January 2010, the fourth book is Bad Blood, this book will not disappoint.

Quick tip for the library.

Remember fiction and non-fiction books are shelved differently. The Mancusi books are ficiton. Fiction books have an F and the three letters of the author's last name below it, shelved in alphabetical order. This information is located on the spine of the book. More about non-fiction later. In case you haven’t heard, the winner for the 2010 high school Sequoyah book award is 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Did you read a super-good book and you want to share? We want your podcast. All you have to do is submit a script of your podcast to the librarian and get the script approved. We will set up a time for you to "perform" your podcast.
